From an email sent on March 17, 2020
First of all, I hope this email finds you healthy and safe. We probably don’t know each other, (although we may have spoken on the phone if you’ve ever called our office here in Santa Barbara), but as a McConnell’s customer, I spend most of my days thinking about you.
And as I work from home in my 700-square-foot house with two young children, an antsy husband, and a neurotic dog, I’m thinking of you a lot today. How are you coping? Are you okay?
I’ve been on the small-but-mighty McConnell’s team for almost 5 years now, and it’s always a point of pride when I get to tell people what I do for work. I did worry when I took a job with my favorite ice cream company that I would discover “how the sausage is made” and be disappointed but, in fact, the complete opposite happened. I found a family (literally and figuratively) who is deeply committed to making the best ice cream in the world, and to bringing joy to our customers, staff, and communities. This team works hard to do so and I think we all find a lot of meaning in doing it.
So to that end, I wanted to let you know about a few ways we’re still here to serve you, and hopefully bring a little joy:
This past winter we made a couple of fun “How To” videos in our Bake Room, where Jordan and Shannon show you how we make our Marshmallow Fluff, Chocolate Ganache, and Oatmeal Raisin Cookies. You can click those links to watch on YouTube, or find everything on our BLOG. These are simple recipes that are really fun to make at home! We hope you enjoy them and can bake alongside the Bake Room gals.
Yesterday we made the decision to close all of our Scoop Shops with the exception of our Studio City shop, which is open to pick up take-out pints and for delivery by Postmates. All other shops will be closed until March 31, when we will reassess the best way forward.
And our McConnell’s-By-Mail program is going strong! As of today, we can still ship ice cream directly to your doorstep (in our new, curbside-recyclable shipper) through our online store. It might be a nice little treat during this stressful time.
Above all, we are thinking of you and your families. Our hearts go out to those who are suffering around the world right now. Stay home, stay kind, and celebrate the small joys where you can find them.
